Ruth Adler and her two children had been staying in a borrowed room after leaving home with only a small bag. A local partner brought groceries and bedding to the door: bread, rice, cooking oil, fruit, and blankets folded in brown paper.
That evening the children laid the blankets on the floor. There was enough food that she would not need to ask a neighbor for the next few days. No one asked the family what they believed. The help was practical — a meal, and a warmer place to sleep.
This week, groceries and bedding are still being sent to families like the Adlers who have been displaced.
